La Valija Vasca is named for my great grandfather Pedro Jaunarena Azcue, Who immigrated to Puerto Rico in the 1800's carrying nothing but a suitcase. The Basques or Vascos are an ethnic group from Northern Spain who have a long history of persecution because their distinct language and culture.
